Stefan Ignat

Ștefan Ignat is graduated from the Music Academy in Bucharest in 1995. Between 1995 – 1998, he studied at Salzburg Mozarteum University. He was a soloist of the State Theatre in Salzburg between 1995 – 1999. From 1999 he is a first soloist of the Romanian Opera House in Bucharest.

In 1997 he won the third award and the Japanese Government award within the International Singing Competition Voci Verdiane in Bussetto, Italy. In 2002 he was awarded the „Ohanesian” prize by the Romanian Music Forum and in 2003 he received the „Arte” award for interpreting Oedipe role from George Enescu’s opera. In 2006 he received the prize for interpreting Oedipe in four different productions.

He made his debut in 1996 as De Luna in Il Trovatore of G. Verdi, in Germany and Austria.

He took part in a series of productions in Romania and throughout Europe and Asia (Theater fur Voralberg Bregenz, Opera Festivals in Gars am Kamp and St Margarethen- Austria, Bangkok- Thailand, Loches and Ramatuel- France, Salonika-Greece, Pedraza- Spain, etc.).

His repertory is complex, among the most important opera roles there are: Oedipe from G. Enescu’s Oedipe, Wotan – Das Rheingold, Wagner, Scarpia – Tosca of G. Puccini, De Luna-Il Trovatore, Jago-Otello, Nabucco, Germont – Traviata, Amonasro – Aida of G. Verdi.

Since 2003 he has constantly participated in George Enescu International Festival. Within the 2003 and 2005 editions, he sang the title role of Oedipe by George Enescu while in 2007 ha participated in the opening concert, as Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen and Carmina Burana of Carl Orff together with the Munich Philharmonic. In 2009 he interpreted again the title role of Oedipe, this time in Theatre du Capitole of Toulouse’s production as well as the title role of Celan by Peter Ruzicka. During the last edition of the Festival (in 2011) he made a new Oedipe production and sang Holderlin of Peter Ruzicka together with „Banatul” Timisoara Philharmonic, conducted by the composer.

He was also acclaimed on the world’s stages as Oedipe at Cagliari – Italy, Illinois – USA where due to the musical accuracy; Albany Records edited a CD of this masterpiece of Enescu. He sang Wotan in Wagner’s Das Rheingold at Sao Carlos national Theatre in Lisbon.

In 2011 he received the national appreciation by receiving an important prize: the VIP prize for the best 2011 opera singer.

The National Opera House from Timisoara, Romania is a cultural public institution subordinated to the Ministry of Culture, his activity being held on annual artistic seasons, performing opera, operetta, ballet and opera for children performances, at home as well abroad.  The National Opera House from Timisoara was establishing through Royal Decree no. 254/31st of March, 1946. The very first manager was Aca de Barbu.
